Going beyond the traditional

At Paws Pet Pad, we're always looking at the traditional and at ways to improve what was based on current education, research, and evidence.

And we've done this with the traditional Board & Train (when you send your dog away for a set period of time for a trainer to work with them on a skill or behaviour).

While the traditional Board & Train can be a convenient and effective approach, at Paws Pet Pad, our preference is to work closely with you during the process and be actively involved with you for better longer term success and better investment of your time and money.

And so with the goal being the most effective programs for you and your dog, we have formed both our Board & Train and our Home & Train programs.

HOME & TRAIN

Train by day with us; relax and reinforce by evening with you

Our Home & Train programs are designed to truly change your and your dog's relationship through focused training time with our trainer and home support from you during the program period.

Dogs do best within the familiarity of their trusted relationships; we want their transformation and learning to be done in tandem with yours, and we want it to be in the lowest-stress environment possible.

We also know it's very hard to give up your family member for a long period of time, and the truth is you don't have to in order to get the results you want. You DO have to be committed to supporting the trainer in what she is doing, but the ongoing success of your dog's training really depends on your commitment to consistency and to learning what your dog has learned.

This program provides all the supports to achieve these goals. It provides dedicated one-on-one time with your dog and our trainer, daily support, weekly short sessions AND ongoing support once the formal program is complete.

This program was designed based on modern learning theory and in-keeping with the understanding of the role of trusted relationships, consistency and routine in shaping behaviour and supporting learning.

HOME & TRAIN PACKAGES

Each program is four weeks with an ongoing support program for you and an intentional program for your dog. Your involvement in this program is key to the success and transformation for you and your dog.

Your dog will join us at Paws Pet Pad each weekday for the four weeks and will go home with you each evening.

You'll receive a structured program for you to implement for your dog at home to support the work we do during the day and to reinforce the learning. Together, this effective program will transform your dog's relationship with you and behaviour and skills in your home.

Four weeks away with us

Our Board & Train programs are a time of focused learning and relationship building between our trainer and your dog with an ongoing support and training reinforcement program for you after the boarding program.

We know sometimes getting away from all the familiar triggers of an environment can provide a helpful break for both you and your dog and spending additional time with us helps strengthen that bond between our trainer and your dog, which is a key to more-effective learning.

Our Board & Train programs lay the foundation through intimate training and shaping sessions with us and then continue on with in-home training and continuation of the program with you and support from our trainer.

The success of this program comes through marrying the guided in-home training and reinforcement sessions with you with a strong foundational training program with our trainer.

BOARD & TRAIN PACKAGES

Each program is 6 weeks (4 weeks board & train and 2 weeks in-home guided program). The board and train period lays the foundation for the in-home period of reinforcement and transformation of your dog in your home and life.

Your dog stays with us for four weeks, after which he or she returns home for a two-week guided period of in-home training by you and support from our trainer.

Together, this effective program will transform your dog's relationship with you and behaviour and skills in your home.
